Gallo Pinto is one of the staple dishes within Costa Rica as well as throughout Latin America.  Gallo pinto (translation Speckled Rooster) is primarily made up of rice and beans but Costa Ricans have made it their own with through the addition of a few key ingredients.  Give it a try!


STEP #1 - GATHERING YOUR INGREDIENTS...

MAIN INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup of cooked rice

  • 1 cup of cooked beans

  • 1 chopped onion (small)

  • 1 small chopped red or green bell pepper

  • 2 cloves of garlic chopped

  • 1 tsp Ground Cumin

  • 1 tbs oil

  • ╝ cup chopped cilantro

  • 4 Tbs. Salsa Lizano - secret ingredient!

  • Pinch of black pepper


STEP #2 - BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER...

  • Under medium heat, sautÚ onion, bell pepper, cumin and garlic in the vegetable oil until onions are transparent and soft

  • Fold in beans and rice.  Mix well

  • Add the Salsa Lizano, chopped cilantro and black pepper.  Mix well.  Cover and reduce heat to low. 

  • Simmer for 2 minutes and serve.
